How do I issue my first fiscal invoice?
Register a device, open a fiscal day, capture the buyer and line items, then fiscalise.
Once your account is active, issuing a compliant invoice takes four things in order: a registered device, an open fiscal day, correct line items, and the fiscalise step.
Step by step
- Register a device (Devices → Add device) if you haven't already. It becomes the fiscal identity that signs the document.
- Open a fiscal day on that device. You can only issue documents while a day is open.
- Open Receipts / Invoices → New and choose the device.
- Choose the document type Fiscal Tax Invoice.
- Capture the buyer. For a business customer who will claim input VAT, their name and TIN are mandatory. For a walk-in cash customer you can leave these blank.
- Add line items: description, quantity, unit price, and each line's tax class (standard, zero-rated or exempt). Assign an HS code to each line — use the HS Code Finder if unsure.
- Check the totals, then click Fiscalise.
- PI Fiscal signs the document, submits it to ZIMRA, and shows the fiscal number, QR code and verification code. Print the 48 mm slip or download the A4 PDF.
Common first-time mistakes
- No fiscal day open — the fiscalise button won't complete. Open the day first.
- Missing HS code on a line — ZIMRA rejects it. Every line needs one.
- Wrong tax class — check whether the item is standard, zero-rated or exempt.
