How does virtual (software) fiscalisation actually work?

A secure server-to-server link to ZIMRA replaces the physical fiscal device.

Older fiscalisation used a physical fiscal device wired to each till. Virtual fiscalisation replaces that box with a secure, encrypted server-to-server connection to ZIMRA FDMS.

What happens when you fiscalise a document

  1. PI Fiscal builds the document in ZIMRA's required format (buyer, line items, taxes, totals).
  2. It signs the document with the device certificate and chains it to the previous document (each carries a hash of the one before it).
  3. It submits the signed document to FDMS over an encrypted channel.
  4. ZIMRA validates it and returns the fiscal number, verification QR and authentication code.
  5. PI Fiscal renders these onto your slip or A4 invoice and stores everything for your records.

Why it's reliable

  • No hardware to fail, replace or re-flash.
  • The hash chain and running counters make tampering detectable.
  • One engine serves many branches and tills consistently.
  • Offline documents are signed and queued, then submitted in order when connectivity returns.
